U16/Eastern High School team selection
Every year New England comes together to host regional championships to determine the fastest state! Typically a three day weekend in March, you can qualify to be a part of the U16/EHS Team for New Hampshire to compete against Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, and New York.
What is A U16 OR EHS?
U16 - A skier who is 14 or 15 years old as of January 1 of the year of competition and lives or attends school in New Hampshire or competes for a New Hampshire-based club. For the 2024/25 season, this is skiers born in 2009 or 2010.
EHS - A skier who lives or attends school in New Hampshire and/or who competes at the high school level for a New Hampshire based ski program (public, private, club skiers in grades 9-12). A U16 skier may compete for U16 and EHS. Skiers must be in grades 9-12.
How to qualify
Skiers who are ranked in the top 24 of the New Hampshire Ranking List (NHRL) in each gender are invited to be members of Team NH. The NHRL is based upon the "average of a skier's best 4 races" criteria, with the NHNCA Coaches Series Race performances being double-counted in the system. Alternates will be called up in order of their ranking as skiers ahead of them on the NHRL decline their spot.
Here is the link to NHRL list the link also includes each race result with NHRL points listed
Who makes the team?
The top 24 boys and 24 girls for EHS per the NHRL
The top 24 boys and 24 girls for U16 per the NHRL
Alternates
Alternates are the next skiers who will be called upon if an opening arises on the team. Alternates do not attend the EHS or U16. If they are called up, then they would go to the event. Alternates will be named to the team in order of their position on the NHRL.
When will the teams be selected?
NHRL rankings will be posted weekly after the first Coaches Series Race.
The U16 and EHSC teams will be selected using NHRL rankings that include races up through the final Eastern Cup Races.
What is a NENSA #?
(your New England Nordic Ski Association membership number) nensa.net
Do I need to be a member of NENSA?
Yes, all team members and coaches must be NENSA members. JOIN NENSA HERE
What does the competition cost?
Cost is $TBD for EHS and $TBD for U16
There is an additional cost for the optional team jacket of $180.
How do I Pay?
By check only. Please make checks out to “NHNCA”, and mail them to NHNCA, 12 Hampton Street, Concord, NH 03301
Include a note for our bookkeeper with the following info: Skier name(s), which trips the skier is attending, trip fee amount(s), and whether or not a jacket cost is included.
These checks should be sent by March 1st.
Is Scholarship available?
Yes! When you complete the Team NH Registration below, you can indicate the amount of scholarship you’re requesting.
The minimum expected contribution is $100 per trip, per skier. Skiers can request scholarship up to the total trip cost, less $100.
The NHNCA reserves are finite, so we do encourage skiers and families who are able to seek out fundraising options within their communities and families.
What does the Trip Fee include?
This fee covers the cost of race entry fees, use of Team NH uniform, coaching, housing, food, transportation and wax for the entire weekend.
What is the refund policy?
Most of the fee is refundable up to 3 days prior to trip departure. Should an athlete be unable to attend for any reason (including injury or illness) within 3 days of the event, refunds will only be granted if another skier can take the place of the absent skier. If no skier can fill that slot, there is no refund. Race weekend starts Friday morning (12:00 AM). This also forfeits the jacket (jacket $ will be refunded).
What if I want a Team NH Jacket?
Jackets can be ordered on the registration page for $180 (check made out to NHNCA or include with the registration check). If a high school senior would like to rent a jacket, they should email teamnh.ehs.teamleader@gmail.com
Where will we be staying?
Usually in a big hotel! See the respective “Team NH Packet” on the event specific pages for more details.
How do I get there?
In a typical year, all skiers will ride a coach bus that takes skiers to and from the venue all weekend long. See either the EHS or U16 Team pages for more details, including schedule and locations.
What do I need to bring/Do for REGISTRATION?
Any skiers in the Top 35 for either EHS or U16 after the second Coaches Series race should complete this U16/EHSC Registration Form. We need this information as soon as possible to determine who will be representing NH at these championships. It’s equally important to complete this form if you intend to decline your spot! This allows us to give as much advance notice as possible to alternates who will be called up. Do not send any money in until after the team is officially named.
